Bird Construction Inc. has secured over $650 million in new federal contracts, marking a significant expansion in its defense, clean energy, and healthcare portfolios. The company announced five major projects spanning Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. The projects include military housing, a clean energy project, and a long-term care facility expansion.

The four federal contracts Bird Construction has secured

1. Military housing in Ontario

Bird has been awarded a modified design-build contract by Defence Construction Canada to design and construct 200 new residential housing units in Ontario. Managed by the Canadian Forces Housing Agency, this project is part of the Residential Portfolio Capital Investment Plan initiative aimed at providing suitable housing solutions for Canadian Armed Forces members and their families.

2. Clean energy project in Alberta

In Alberta, Bird has been selected for a new contract award as part of Dow’s Path2Zero Program in Fort Saskatchewan. The project involves building the world’s first net-zero integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives site concerning scope 1 and 2 emissions. Bird’s scope of work includes civil, mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and instrumentation, buildings, and insulation works.

3. Healthcare facility expansion in British Columbia

Bird has been awarded a construction management contract for the multi-phase expansion and renovation of the Cottonwoods long-term care facility in Kelowna, B.C. The initial phase involves constructing a new four-story, 234-bed facility, including all support services and an operations center for managing facilities across seven Interior Health locations. Phase two will involve demolishing the 1975 portion of the site and constructing a new one-story mass timber amenity space, linking the new building with the remaining 1985 structure.

4. Nuclear infrastructure projects in Ontario

Further to recently announced projects supporting Ontario Power Generation’s nuclear work program, Bird, through the Indigenous-led joint venture Makhos Bird Joint Venture, has been awarded additional contracts for the design and construction of four projects supporting ongoing nuclear operations and refurbishment activities.

Bird’s strategy of focusing on sectors backed by long-term government investment is clearly paying off. From military infrastructure to clean energy and healthcare projects, the company is tapping into areas that line up with Canada’s biggest spending priorities.
