Inside XtreeE’s push for sustainable 3D concrete printing worldwide

Written By Alexis Nicols

Xtreee 3D printing robot for concrete.

In an industry under pressure to cut emissions and adopt greener practices, XtreeE offers sustainable 3D concrete printing as a scalable solution that blends robotics with sustainability. Based near Paris and founded in 2015, this forward-thinking company specializes in large-scale 3D printing of structural and architectural concrete. With its patented system for 3D concrete printing, it enables faster, more flexible, and lower-carbon construction.

XtreeE blends innovation and sustainability to bring modular, large-scale 3D printing to global construction. The company equips builders with robotic concrete printing systems, software, and services to create architectural and infrastructure elements with a lower carbon footprint.

XtreeE has deployed over ten patented 3D concrete printers globally, including five in France, two each in the UAE and Japan, and others in the United States, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, and China. It has completed more than 100 printed projects across ten countries, including street furniture, building facades, infrastructure elements, and even coral reef structures off the coast of Cap d’Agde, designed to support marine biodiversity.

One notable partner is Concreative, a UAE-based initiative from Freyssinet, which uses XtreeE’s patented system at its Dubai production site. As Concreative describes it, “XtreeE 3D concrete printing technology frees architects from the restrictions of standardised formwork. It offers a way to design and build complex concrete architectural and structural elements, deliver personalised, customised solutions, and control cost and time to market.” Benefits also include reduced on-site hazards, shorter build times, and greater access to hard-to-reach project areas.

“Concreative is the result of a combination of two favourable circumstances: the arrival at maturity of the technology a year ago, and the decision by the United Arab Emirates to become a major construction market using and promoting 3D printing,” said Khalil Doghri, Middle East India Area Director at Freyssinet. “We applied the global approach that we are used to taking in our specialist civil engineering business activity.”

The company is backed by major players in the construction and materials sectors, including VINCI, Bouygues, Thornton Tomasetti, and Holcim. This support is indicative of an increasing demand for low-carbon, digitized construction tools that also provide trades with better design flexibility, faster workflows, and new project opportunities.

In a recent update, XtreeE announced two new production sites: one in the Paris region and another in the UAE. Reinforcing the company’s global footprint and commitment to scaling sustainable building practices, these facilities operate around the clock using automated robotic cells and support “mass customization with low-carbon concrete.”

By offering advanced software, scalable hardware, and localized manufacturing hubs, XtreeE is helping move the construction industry toward a future that is more eco-friendly, more flexible, and less wasteful.
