Their goal was to raise awareness around safety in construction
Over 2,640 construction professionals made a powerful statement on the first day of CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the most people wearing high-visibility safety vests at once.
The attempt, while remarkable, couldn’t surpass the official record because the organizers couldn’t complete the verification process on time. The current record is held by 2,499 participants, set in Australia in 2019.
However, organizers noted that the event made a strong impression, setting an exciting start to CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026. “The crowd was excited for the record attempt but even more so to get into the show,” said Dana Wuesthoff, Show Director, CONEXPO-CON/AGG. “While we ran out of time to break the current record, we were thrilled to celebrate together and open CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 in a memorable way.”
The industry is a major part of the U.S. economy, contributing over $2 trillion each year.
According to the show’s organizers, the attempt served a greater purpose and was planned to highlight the importance of safety in construction. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the total number of construction-related fatalities in the U.S. due to injuries sustained on the job was 1,032 in 2024.
Wuesthoff added that the record attempt was ultimately an attempt to honor the hard work, progress, innovation, and commitment of everyone in construction.
“We want to honor those who build our cities, roads, railways, airports, stadiums, and monuments and highlight how their efforts touch every aspect of society,” she said. “This record is particularly important to us as safety is and always will be of utmost priority for the industry and the people who make this work possible.”
