Epic Cleantec brings innovative water reuse to construction

Written By Sarah Poirier

Epic Cleantec is changing how water is managed in urban construction projects. Based in San Francisco, the company specializes in designing and installing on-site water reuse systems that treat and repurpose water directly within buildings. This approach reduces reliance on municipal water supplies, lowers operational costs, and supports environmental sustainability.

Their flagship system, OneWater™, captures and treats various types of wastewater—including blackwater, greywater, and rainwater—to produce clean water for reuse. This purified water can be utilized for non-potable purposes, such as irrigation, cooling, and toilet flushing, helping buildings operate more sustainably.

Epic Cleantec provides a full suite of services, from system design and permitting to installation and ongoing maintenance. They collaborate with developers, architects, and construction teams to create solutions tailored to each project’s specific needs, ensuring compliance with local regulations while maximizing efficiency.

The company’s mission goes beyond technology—it aims to redefine how water is valued in urban development. Integrating water reuse into construction projects helps address pressing issues like water scarcity and climate resilience. Its systems reduce the strain on municipal water infrastructure and enable buildings to become more self-sufficient. Epic’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is paving the way for a new standard in construction practices where environmental responsibility aligns with economic benefits.

A notable example of their work is at Salesforce Tower in San Francisco. Epic’s system processes up to 30,000 gallons of water daily, converting it into reusable water for cooling and irrigation. This project highlights the potential for large-scale buildings to reduce water waste and address growing concerns about water scarcity.

Beyond individual projects, Epic Cleantec is driving a cultural shift in the construction industry, encouraging developers to integrate sustainable practices from the ground up. Promoting decentralized water management offers a practical solution to one of the most pressing challenges in urban development today.
