Hitachi opens new sustainable HQ in Georgia

Hitachi new headquarter

Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas (HCMA) has opened a new sustainable regional headquarters facility in Newnan, Georgia, to boost customer support and respond to what the company says is a “tenfold” increase in demand for its machinery.

As one of the leading manufacturers of construction and mining equipment in the Americas, HCMA has more than tripled its employee count and acquired a larger and more extensive space for its new headquarters.

The new facility features 88,128 square feet of office space, 27,686 square feet dedicated to conference space, a ConSite machine data command center, and training space. It was designed to increase creativity and inspire future growth.

“In March 2022, we set out on a path to establish a more direct connection with customers. Our culture has been very much involved with listening, understanding, and implementing customer feedback,” stated Al Quinn, CEO of Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas. ” By combining the resources of the excavator, loader, and mining businesses, the company has experienced a tenfold demand from previous years. The investment in a regional Americas facility helps strengthen that direct connection to the customer.”

The new facility will enable the company to focus on its key areas of growth, which include the compact and construction business network and expanding the sale of mining excavators for construction and quarry sites.

“Establishing a direct connection with customers means listening and aligning with their needs and values,” said Quinn. Because the industry is moving in the direction of more sustainable practices, Hitachi has designed their new headquarters to reflect this:

  • 5,101 cubic yards of recycled concrete repurposed for roadway, fill, and redistribution
  • 40,580 square feet of exterior metal wall panels recycled
  • 125 tons of reused steel frame structure
  • 69,965 square feet of existing concrete slabs were reused
  • 4,920 square feet of roof purlins and 48,976 square feet of old metal roof panels transformed into decking for the new roof
  • 1,545 linear feet of reclaimed heart pine wood used for stairways and stair seating areas
  • Recycled plastics used to manufacture all carpet products

The new headquarters also features an energy-efficient design with Low-E glass that blocks 62% of solar energy while allowing about 70% of visible light. During construction, an advanced energy management system was installed to monitor and optimize energy consumption and temperature changes.
