Procore’s new CEO Ajei Gopal signals next chapter in construction tech

Written By Alexis Nicols

Procore CEO Ajei Gopal

Carpinteria, California-based construction technology giant Procore has named Ajei Gopal as its new CEO. The announcement marks the first leadership change in over 20 years, as founder Tooey Courtemanche transitions into the role of Executive Chairman.

Ajei Gopal brings more than 35 years of experience in the technology sector. Most recently, he served as CEO of Ansys, a leading provider of engineering simulation software, from 2017 to 2025. Under his leadership, Ansys more than tripled its revenue, nearly quadrupled its market value, and became part of the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100.

Before Ansys, Gopal held executive roles at Hewlett-Packard, CA Technologies, and Symantec. He also served as an operating partner at Silver Lake, a private equity firm specializing in technology investments. Gopal has a proven track record of successfully growing software companies, making him a strong fit to lead Procore into its next stage of growth.

What you need to know about the leadership transition

Tooey Courtemanche founded Procore in 2002 after experiencing firsthand the frustrations of managing construction projects with paper-based systems. He built the company into one of the most recognized platforms for construction management worldwide, taking it public in 2021. “I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built at Procore over the past 25 years,” he said. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our employees and the partnership of the industry that I love.”

While Courtemanche is moving away from day-to-day management, he’ll stay active with the company as executive chairman. “Procore does more than build software; we’re a mission-driven platform empowering people to build the places that shape our world,” he said. “Ajei’s experience leading a vertical software company to billions in revenue uniquely positions him to help us scale and capture the opportunity ahead.”

This leadership change reflects Procore’s focus on scaling its business and adapting to the evolving landscape of construction technology. With artificial intelligence and digital tools rapidly becoming part of the industry, Procore is signaling that its next phase will be about growth, innovation, and global expansion.

Gopal’s experience leading Ansys through massive revenue growth and technological innovation suggests Procore’s next phase is about expanding and rolling out new solutions. As construction teams turn to digital platforms for better workflow and collaboration, Procore wants to be the go-to choice.

As builders adopt more digital tools and AI in their work, Gopal’s experience could position Procore to become an even stronger partner across the industry.

Procore’s decision to bring in a seasoned software executive shows its intent to double down on growth and ensure its platform stays at the center of the construction industry’s digital transformation.
