SR Measure’s iPhone app allows contractors to accurately measure stockpiles

The SR Measure app for iPhones uses tech-based tools to help contractors estimate stockpile quantities. As users walk around the stockpile, SR Measure uses the iPhone camera to deliver an accurate estimate within 5% of the material’s total cubic yards. A paid app version also allows users to generate estimates of piles enclosed by walls on three sides.

The app (available only for iPhones) allows users to determine how much material is in any given pile by opening the app and walking around the stockpile. The app uses proprietary computer vision algorithms to record the pile using the iPhone camera and delivers results in just a few seconds. The app’s measurements are accurate within 5% of the total cubic yards.

Previous iterations of the app required orange traffic cones around the stockpile for scale, but a 4.0 update made the cones redundant by using the iPhone’s accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer.

The SR Measure app works best with conical piles rather than those with uneven or bumpy tops, and Stockpile Reports also recommends removing any surrounding vegetation around the pile. In winter, more than a few inches of snow covering the stockpile can affect the final measurements, so the app creators advise waiting until the amount of snow has been reduced for a more accurate measurement.

The app’s free version allows users to measure one freestanding pile per day. A paid individual version costs $99 monthly, offers unlimited measurements of freestanding piles plus bunkers and bins, and allows users to save measurements locally. Corporate users can purchase a company account starting at $500 per month for up to five users, with the option to add additional users for $20. Company accounts provide unlimited measurements, reports in tonnage, managing piles of multiple products on multiple sites, a cloud portal, and a dashboard.
