A universal milestone: Frisco’s family-focused resort takes shape

Universal Destinations & Experiences is building a first-of-its-kind resort and theme park for young children in Frisco, Texas. Designed to provide immersive, family-friendly entertainment, Universal Kids Resort is tailored for kids aged three to nine and will feature interactive attractions, beloved characters, and a scaled-down design perfect for young visitors.

Unlike Universal’s larger resorts, this park stands out for its intimate approach, blending immersive attractions with a focus on interactivity, including themed play areas and engaging experiences designed for younger audiences.

Situated on 97 acres in Frisco’s thriving community, the park is strategically located to cater to North Texas families. When fully completed, Universal Kids Resort will offer an array of rides, shows, a 300-room hotel, and a variety of dining and shopping options. Construction began in 2023, with plans to finish the project and open to the public by 2026. The development team includes London-based Balfour Beatty as the general contractor, Gensler as the architect, and Moss Utilities LLC handling utility work.

According to NBCUniversal, the park aims to set a precedent for theme park development in emerging suburban markets, emphasizing a more intimate visitor experience. WFAA reports highlight the local buzz surrounding the project, with Frisco community members eagerly anticipating the economic and cultural benefits it will bring to the area.

“Universal Kids Resort will inspire the unbridled creativity of kids through imagination, discovery and most importantly – play,” said Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative. “We’re designing the resort so kids and families can feel the thrill of being physically immersed in their most beloved stories and characters.”

As Universal charts a new course in family entertainment, Frisco is poised to become a go-to destination for unforgettable memories. Stay tuned as this exciting project inches closer to completion.
